(Nashville, Tenn. – May 18, 2016) – The International Parking Institute (IPI) named Cathy Harrison, office supervisor at Arizona State University Parking & Transit Services (PTS) as its 2016 Parking Supervisor of the Year. The award, part of IPI’s 10th annual Professional Recognition Program, was announced at IPI’s 2016 Conference & Expo, May 17-20 in Nashville, Tenn. It was created to honor parking industry professionals at a supervisory level who exemplify excellence and are changing the perceptions of parking through their actions and organizational programs. They are nominated by their peers and selected by IPI’s Professional Recognition Committee.

As an employee of PTS for more than 20 years, Harrison embodies what it means to roll up her sleeves and get in the trenches. She oversees seven employees and ensures that she and her staff members provide ASU’s 100,000+ students and employees with first-rate service. She spreads good cheer to all of her co-workers and customers, noting, “I like giving options and solutions to a frustrated customer and then see that frustration change to relief. It’s like I wrap up the answers with a nice bow and send them on their way.”

Customers and campus staff want to work with Harrison, knowing they can rely on her to find the parking accommodations that will work best for them. She is the face and voice of PTS Customer Service, which is evident in her numerous Sun Awards, given by peers to fellow employees in recognition of individual excellence in such areas as creativity, continuous improvement, fostering cooperation, providing exemplary service, valuing diversity, and promoting ASU. Leading by example, she empowers her employees to make smart decisions and takes a sincere interest in her crew and customers. “We’re all here to do the best job we can do,” she says. “We’re all in this together.”
