What’s the future of driving? That is, as they say, the $50 million question. Ohio University put together a handy infographic with some of the details. Among their findings:

  • 61 percent of current drivers want at least some semi-autonomous features in their next cars. Lane departure warning systems top their wish lists, followed by adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, and self-parking technology.
  • Driverless cars will reduce accidents by 90 percent and emissions by 60 percent.
  • Driverless cars will cut commuting time and increase passenger productivity en route to work.

It’s not all rosy, though—the researchers say inclement weather may wreak havoc with car sensors, the cars are likely to be quite expensive, and the safety isn’t quite nailed down.
