International Parking Institute (IPI) recognizes one of the largest universities in the nation for commitment to sustainability in parking and customer service.

(New Orleans – May 15, 2017) — The International Parking Institute (IPI) has named Parking & Transit Services (PTS) at Arizona State University (ASU) in Phoenix as its 2017 Parking Organization of the Year.

The annual award, presented at IPI’s 2017 Conference & Expo in New Orleans, La., May 21-24, recognizes public or private parking organizations, departments, consultants, suppliers, and commercial operators that exceed expectations and meet extremely high industry standards.

Serving more than 90,000 students and 12,000 employees at the nation’s largest public university, ASU-PTS is dedicated to providing sustainable transportation and superior customer service. Its leased parking access revenue control system (PARCS) and pay-by-phone implementations have allowed the organization to expand visitor options into previously unavailable areas on campus. In the process, the organization has earned a sought-after seat at the planning table.

ASU-PTS was one of the first non-academic units to adopt a customer relations management (CRM) tool to streamline communication while keeping correspondence transparent. It incorporated service blueprinting to visualize service processes and delivery from a customer’s point of view, modifying its permit renewal and guest reservation processes to make them seamless.

ASU-PTS is playing a major role in the university’s bold sustainability goals by promoting and facilitating a range of transportation options. Its bike program boasts four card-access bicycle parking structures, three bike valet stations, more than 6,000 registered bicyclists, and achieved a 25-percent increase in bike racks since 2014. The university’s Tempe campus was named a Gold-level Bicycle Friendly University by the League of American Bicyclists in 2014, and the Downtown Phoenix and Polytechnic campuses earned Bronze-level distinction in 2015. Discounted student and employee parking passes grant unlimited access to the area bus and light-rail system, and all-day parking privileges at a designated facility. An intercampus shuttle system links the four ASU campuses; other services include car share, electric vehicle charging stations, and an on-campus circulator at the Tempe campus.

Since 2012, ASU has donated the annual revenue from two reserved parking spaces and two meters to a university program or student-run organization.
