IPI's Car Sharing Webinar Offered Insider InformationIPI's March 23rd webinar, How You Can Use Car Sharing to
Positively Impact Parking Demand and Increase Revenue, educated
participants on what car sharing is, how it works, who provides it
and how to fit it into your parking operations. Instructor Brian
Shaw, Director of Business Services at the University of
Pennsylvania, a car sharer himself, discussed how more and more
cities, universities, transportation centers and corporations are
turning to car sharing to reduce fleet costs, stretch limited
parking inventory, generate revenue, provide last mile
transportation and mobility to transit riders, ride sharers, bikers
and walkers. Brian also fielded nearly 20 questions during the
webinar such as:
Question: Can you share any thoughts about how car sharing can be revenue generating? Brian Shaw: Car sharing can lower the need to build parking, saving money in construction and land acquisition costs. Car sharing can also make use of parking spaces that may otherwise be difficult to sell, such as during the summer at universities or in service spaces. Question: Do you have an idea of how much parking demand is reduced on campuses where car sharing is introduced? Brian Shaw: On average, car sharing can reduce parking demand by 15 vehicles per car sharing vehicle. IPI members can read the entire Q&A from the webinar, or anyone can access the archived webinar. |
