Upcoming IPI Webinar: Enforcement![]() A Paradigm Shift in Parking Enforcement Wednesday, January 26, 2011 2:00pm EST Instructor: Roamy Valera, CAPP, Vice President, Standard Parking Corp. This webinar will discuss the challenges that are presented to Parking Enforcement Officers (PEO) and the expectation to deliver the highest level of customer service. Public Relations have become much more important in the day-to-day functions of the parking enforcement profession. It will give an overview of the parking industry today, describing how the need of a shift in paradigm for parking enforcement programs has changed the way parking professionals look at the impact of public relations and the services provided. The topic will cover a number of related topics including the role of the parking enforcement officer, how this role interacts with the overall parking initiative and/or program, the "challenges" of the PEO, and more. You will learn the various tools the industry has at their disposal and how the parking enforcement program with specific objectives such as increasing PEO accountabilities, identifying parking demand and utilization by area/zones, citation productivity, and reducing complaints, needs a solid understanding of how public relations impacts the results of their work. The webinar will also discuss the issue of technology today and the impact it is having on the parking industry. In addition, the presentation will discuss how established policies and procedures play a role in the delivery of public relations initiatives, and the question of who should be involved, and how it should be adopted and managed. State of the StatesCalifornia Public Parking Association
As an organization our goal is to
help our member agencies with questions and issues that
arise. Recently a member inquired if they had an obligation
to provide sign language interpreters for hearing impaired
individuals at an administrative hearing. Our members in both
San Francisco and Los Angeles said that if a respondent
specifically requests a sign language interpreter at their hearing,
they provide one. Title II of the ADA "is intended to apply
to all programs, activities, and services provided or operated by
State and local governments." It appears that if requested, a
parking agency may have to provide a sign language
interpreter. CPPA does not provide legal advice to our
members due to several reasons. However, CPPA members are
advised to check with their own attorneys or legal representatives
about this issue. For further information, the ADA website
