Transportation Security Administration (TSA) Honors IPI for First Observer Anti-Terrorism Program The
Transportation Security Administration (TSA) has honored the
International Parking Institute with their TSA Partnership Award.
In choosing IPI, TSA recognized "the foresight of the
organization's leadership in understanding the importance of
training parking professionals as foot soldiers in the war against
terrorism." The ceremony will take place on November 19 in
Arlington, VA.

IPI and Department of Energy Lighting Usage Survey The
International Parking Institute (IPI) is proud to be partnering
with U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) and its Lighting Research
and Development Program to study lighting consumption and
opportunities for energy-savings in the parking industry.If you have parking facilities, this is your opportunity to play a vital role in this joint IPI/DOE research study by completing a short survey that asks a variety of questions about lighting and parking. Please take a few minutes to complete this questionnaire because with your help this report will be more reflective of our industry. The results of the survey will be useful for parking professionals and the parking industry overall. It will: · Determine performance
characteristic of lighting technologies
· Identify trends, drivers, and barriers to improve efficiencies in the lighting market · Recognize opportunities for energy savings in the future Thank you in advance for

IPI and First Observer Program Featured in Today's Facility Manager MagazineThis month, Today's Facility Manager Magazine which reaches
50,000 FMs, there is nearly a full page devoted to 'Protection
Parking Areas." The bylined article by IPI Deputy Director Henry
Wallmeyer helps favorably position the profession to a key target
audience. The article, part of IPI's Parking Matters industry-wide
program for advancing the parking professional, focuses on the
First Observer program. At the conclusion of the article, editor
Anne Vazquez includes an overview of IPI and solicits input from
readers on other security measures and training for parking
employees - a good way to get FMs thinking about the importance of

2011 IPI Awards Programs2011 IPI Awards of Excellence Awards
HURRY! The Friday, November 5, 2010 Deadline for Entries
is Quickly Approaching!!
Each year IPI recognizes and commends trends in parking
facility design, which are aesthetically pleasing as well as
functional, green and sustainable. We also recognize innovation in
parking programs and operations. This year's 29th annual IPI Awards
of Excellence open competition is for public agencies,
jurisdictions, institutions, organizations or corporations which
own parking facilities completed or renovated since January 1,
2008, or which conduct parking programs/operations initiated since
that date. Awards of Excellence, Awards of Merit and Honorable
Mentions are given to submitted projects/operations determined by
the IPI Awards of Excellence Committee to be deserving of
recognition in each category. Awards may be made in five
categories:
I. Best design of a parking facility with fewer than 800
spaces;
II. Best design of a parking facility with 800 or more spaces; III. Innovation in a parking operation or program; IV. Best parking facility rehabilitation or restoration; and V. Award of Architectural Achievement. All submissions from Categories I, II and IV will
automatically be entered into Category V but are not subject to an
additional entry fee. All rules, regulations and judging
criteria are listed in the official entry packet available at www.parking.org/aoe.
Professional Recognition
AwardsIPI understands the critical nature that facilities and
programs play in our business. However, our most valuable
assets are our human resources: the staff who operate, maintain and
manage our operations. To recognize the contributions of
individuals to our industry, IPI is conducting the 5th Annual
Professional Recognition Program competition. The competition
includes top honors for the following categories:
Parking Professional of the Year (for
management/supervisory staff that directs an entire operation or
manages multiple units within a department)
Parking Supervisor of the Year (supervises one or
more employees within a department responsible for only one until
within the department
Parking Staff Member of the Year (for front-line staff) Parking Organization of the Year The deadline for submitting nominations is January 29, 2011
