Just a short note about an incident that made me stop and think during this busy holiday season.
As many of you remember, Carol Easterling was a founding member of Florida Parking Association and a very devoted Board member and friend (and long-time member of IPI). Because of the information listing on our website, I received an almost 'begging to return the call' message from a woman that I did not recognize. However, she relayed that she had known Carol for many years, and was trying to find information about her.
She had recently gone to a high school reunion in Cocoa Beach, FL and had just heard about Carol's passing. She was very visibly shaken. She and Carol had grown up and gone to school together, remaining friends for many years. She fondly recalled stories of the two of them; said they were quite the pair and did get in some 'fun' troubles. Their lives went on and they ended up living in different areas of the country. They kept in touch for many years, with Carol even hitchhiking to Alabama for a visit. (She was surprised that Carol ended up in the parking world).
As so many of us do, they lost touch and she only found out about Carol's passing at the high school reunion; she was so upset that she had to leave the reunion. She said that Carol was such a great and loyal friend, and she was so regretful they had not kept in touch. I gave her as much information as I could, and gave her another person to contact (someone much closer to Carol).
A couple of years ago, Florida Parking Association started a Carol Easterling Award to honor a 'deserving' front line employee, which was Carol's passion. We are now upgrading and redeveloping the award into a yearly scholarship. We will continue to carry on Carol's legacy; she was such an instrumental part of Florida Parking Association for so many years and such a great friend to many!
HAVE A BLESSED AND HAPPY HOLIDAY SEASON!
