IPI State and Regional Outreach Program: CPPA and IPI Partner for Parking Matters Special EventWhat if we could gather a group of city managers, planners,
developers and financial officers (non parking professionals) in a
room - in your city or state - for a few hours and enlighten them
as to why Parking Matters? That was the big idea behind a
joint IPI and California Public Parking Association (CPPA)
by-invitation-only event held immediately prior to CPPA's annual
conference last week. The verdict: The program was a great success.
More than 30 attendees were treated to a breakfast seminar which
started with an introduction by IPI executive director Shawn
Conrad, CAE, and an overview of emerging trends and technologies by
IPI Chair Cindy Campbell, Cal Poly State University Police. Mott
Smith, Civic Enterprise Associates, provided an "Insider's Guide to
Closing the Gap Between Paper Regulations and Real Life Parking
Operations," Lee Bourque, Sr. of Carl Walker, Inc., Atlanta, talked
about "Easy Money: Secrets to Improving the Auditing Process and
Improving Cash Handling," and Robert Horch, City of San Luis
Obispo, rounded out the program talking about "Parking Politics,
Pitfalls and Progress." Special thanks to Chad Lynn, City of
Beverly Hills and Marlene Cramer, Cal Poly University Police
(outgoing and incoming CPPA Presidents) for their efforts. If the
idea of a Parking Matters program to educate key, non-parking
decision-makers at the state and regional level is of interest to
you, contact Helen Sullivan, IPI communications counsel, at sullivan@parking.org.

Pittsburgh - Site of 2011 IPI Conference & Expo Once the hub of the Industrial Revolution,
Pittsburgh has shed its image as a dirty steel town and emerged as
a world leader in the green building movement. Ranked as the
"greenest" city in America by the Green Building Alliance (GBA),
it's perfectly fitting as the location for the 2011
IPI Conference & Expo with education focusing
specifically on sustainability and the Expo being held in the David
L Lawrence Convention Center -- the first convention center to be
certified green. Pittsburgh's convenient location places it less
than 500 miles from most major U.S. cities, and a two-hour flight
or less from more than 50 percent of the U.S. and Canadian
population, making it an affordable and accessible location for
parking professionals seeking professional development, networking
and access to the latest technology. For more information,

State of the StatesFlorida Parking Association Just a short note about an incident that made me stop and think during this busy holiday season. As many of you remember, Carol Easterling was a founding member of Florida Parking Association and a very devoted Board member and friend (and long-time member of IPI). Because of the information listing on our website, I received an almost 'begging to return the call' message from a woman that I did not recognize. However, she relayed that she had known Carol for many years, and was trying to find information about her. She had recently gone to a high school reunion in Cocoa Beach, FL and had just heard about Carol's passing. She was very visibly shaken. She and Carol... more information.
