Texas Tech Gets Into the Holiday Spirit With "Toys for Tickets"

Toys for Tickets
Texas Tech University Parking Services found a way to inject the Holiday Spirit into parking tickets with their annual Toys for Tickets program. In conjunction with United States Marine Corp's Toys for Tots, from November 15th through December 5th each year, the university's parking services offers to dismiss an outstanding citation for a new toy donation. Of course, the receipt presented must be equal to or greater than the amount of the fine to have the citation dismissed.

"The students, faculty and staff enjoy the program, in that they can donate a toy and do something good instead of paying the fine and receiving a punishment of sorts," noted Heather Medley, marketing and training coordinator for University Parking Services. "We have dismissed about 60 citations this year and over the last five years we have donated over $7,500 worth of toys to Toys for Tots."

Additionally, collection barrels are placed at the points of entry to campus so all community members, even those without parking citations can donate.

"Toys for Tickets is a great way for students to give back while simultaneously dispelling some of those rumors that parking services is just in it to take students' money," added Medley.

From the December Issue of the Parking Professional:
The Role of Sustainability in Parking Planning, Design and Operations
By Megan Leinart, LEED AP, BD+C - Tim Haahs and Associates, Inc.

Every industry has its own take on how sustainability influences its products and services, and on the scope of responsibility of those who develop and market them.  Parking is no different.  We face a unique challenge as we attempt to implement sustainable design strategies into the planning, design and construction of parking facilities, and collaborate with a cadre of organizations who would prefer to eradicate or strictly limit automobile use.

Last Chance for Compensation Survey Data Collection

IPI wants to provide parking professionals with information that will help you and your organization remain competitive and successful. Attracting and retaining talented employees and knowing how your operation compares in terms of salaries, benefits, expenses, profits and procedures will help your organization to maximize its potential.  As such, IPI has asked Readex Research to survey the parking industry to develop a profile of parking operations and employee compensation. Many of you may have already received an email from Readex Research inviting you to participate - your reply is vital for valid results.

All survey answers will be handled in strict confidence by Readex and will be used only in tabulation with others. No respondent-identifiable or organization-identifiable information will be made available to IPI or published in the report. Nor will your e-mail address or response be used for any other purpose.

The deadline for completing the survey has been extended through Wednesday, December 15, 2010.  Please be sure to complete it today!

If you have any questions or need additional information in order to complete the survey, please contact Lauri Chudoba at chudoba@parking.org or 540.371.7535.
