Texas Tech Gets Into the Holiday Spirit With "Toys for Tickets"
Texas Tech University Parking Services found a way to inject the Holiday Spirit into parking tickets with their annual Toys for Tickets program. In conjunction with United States Marine Corp's Toys for Tots, from November 15th through December 5th each year, the university's parking services offers to dismiss an outstanding citation for a new toy donation. Of course, the receipt presented must be equal to or greater than the amount of the fine to have the citation dismissed.
"The students, faculty and staff enjoy the program, in that they can donate a toy and do something good instead of paying the fine and receiving a punishment of sorts," noted Heather Medley, marketing and training coordinator for University Parking Services. "We have dismissed about 60 citations this year and over the last five years we have donated over $7,500 worth of toys to Toys for Tots."
Additionally, collection barrels are placed at the points of entry to campus so all community members, even those without parking citations can donate.
"Toys for Tickets is a great way for students to give back while simultaneously dispelling some of those rumors that parking services is just in it to take students' money," added Medley.
