Developing your Essential Parking Documents

This intensive one-day seminar is designed specifically for parking
professionals who

--operate under written policies and procedures

--need to write or amend their written procedures from time to time

--are tasked with writing new procedures

--are responsible for personnel policies and procedures

--become involved in the writing of Requests for Proposals (RFPs)

--are in need of concise, legally-defensible, reasonable policies

RFP Preparation

This two-day course is designed to provide a short session on how to prepare an RFP and will begin with definitions done in a unique style using question and answers as the start point. The instructor will start the class with a briefing that discusses the good and bad points of the current RFP process and end the class with an exercise designed to allow the students to understand how to layout and build an RFP.

Objectives: 

1. Understand the vendors’ perspective re procurement via the RFP/Proposal mechanism.

2. Understand the differences between the various types of RFPs.

3. Understand the risk factors attendant to the various RFP types.

4.   Understand how to build an RFP.


Registration includes three full days of intensive technical sessions, all seminar materials, exhibits, continental breakfasts, luncheons, refreshments and an evening reception.

Fees increase after January 3, 2003.  Registration should be made in
advance and payment should accompany the registration form. If the seminar is canceled for any reason, fees will be refunded.  If unable to attend, registrant must notify IPI at least ten days prior to the seminar to receive a refund.

Essential Parking Documents: What you need, what you have
This morning session is conducted by Scott E. Kangas, CAPP, parking
manager, City of Davenport, Iowa.  Mr. Kangas has also held parking positions
with the City of Durham, North Carolina, the University of Minnesota Hospital
and Clinic, and private enterprise.  The session will include an introduction, background material, and specific examples of policies and procedures
manuals for a wide range of parking operations.

Approval
Using specific examples from her background, and that of other
experienced parking professionals, Vanessa Cummings, assistant director of the
parking department at the University of Miami (Ohio), will walk delegates
through steps on the road toward promulgating and implementing effective parking
documents.

 A presentation called “The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly” is used as the teaching vehicle. Presentation will use various government background documents and WEB sites as source material is the basis of this segment of the class.

How To Build An RFP   
This segment consists of two sub-segments, an interactive lecture that presents the components of an RFP and the basis for how to prepare a document using storyboards followed by a comprehensive exercise sub-segment. The lecture uses the instructor’s extensive experience in preparing both RFPs and proposals in the public and private sectors. The exercise sub-segment uses the instructor’s extensive class room experience teaching RFP and proposal preparation for over 20 years.

YOU’RE ON!: How the Media Gets Your Message

A CAPP Seminar of the International Parking Institute

Who Should Attend

The Human Resources seminar is designed specifically for parking professionals handling all aspects of personnel issues and those with an interest in this important area.  There will be a discussion about hiring practices, discipline, grievance procedures, ADA and sexual harassment.

The Media seminar is for CAPP Candidates Only and addresses the growing need for parking professionals to address both broadcast and print media forums.  There will be in-depth discussions with representative of newspaper, magazines, radio and television; the do’s and don’ts of dealing with the media; hands-on sessions allowing participants time to appear on camera as they learn how to make the most of a television interview; interview techniques, proper dress, framing appropriate answers, etc.; and developing effective press kits, using news and broadcast releases, and much more.

This dual seminar is specifically designed to meet the additional challenges placed upon the candidates, in the Certified Administrator of Public Parking (CAPP) program.  CAPP candidates may earn 15 points for attending these seminars. 

The instructors are recognized experts in the field.  Additionally, participants will receive reference materials and information necessary to pass this section of the CAPP examination.

Representatives from print and broadcast media will be featured to teach IPI CAPP Candidates the do’s and don’ts of handling “hard news” stories.  This session deals with how reporters find their sources, when to contact reporters, tips on dealing with reporters and how technology is changing the news media.  This session will also feature a prominent reporter who will share unique insights about covering news stories and answer attendees questions about how prominent reporters shape the stories that appear in print or broadcast news reports.

The afternoon is devoted to teaching attendees how to deal with radio interview situations.  During the first half, attendees will hear from numerous professionals who will describe how the business community can reach the public through radio talk shows.  Attention also will be given to techniques regarding how to get booked on talks shows.  During the second half participants will be given hands-on experience regarding how to handle a radio talk show situation.

The final session is a hands-on educational session where attendees see themselves in television interview situations.  During this session, participants will be videotaped and their interviews played back and critiqued by the professionals.  Through this process participants learn how to effectively respond to television interviews.
