smart city and internet of things, various communication devicesThe White House this week announced more than $300 million in funding to develop technology that will boost, in part, the Smart Cities initiative, which combines open data and the Internet of Things (IoT) to make cities more inhabitable and cleaner.

What’s that mean for parking? Some people think a lot. Check out this post from ThingWorx, which develops IoT technology. They’re not parking people but they think parking is going to have a heck of a lot to do with smart cities. “A great first solution,” they say, “one that is both highly salient to many city dwellers and can show a clear 12-18 month payback period is a favorite urban issue: parking.”

Of course, we already knew that. Let us know in the comments—what role will parking take in Smart Cities? Perhaps someday everybody else will say they knew us when.
